In many industries that require any kind of filling application rotary encoder products are used for table positioning. What this encoder actually does is it sends feedback which will make sure that whatever needs to be filled is in the right position before the filling mechanism starts. The way this starts is any kind of cans, tubs, bottles, cartons, and so on are transported most of the time by a conveyor belt, rotary table, or any other delivery system, in the mean time a rotary encoder is either mounted to the motor, drive shaft, or any other place it may go, when the encoder counts the proper amount it the controller will send a command to the system that fills the containers. This is pretty impressive technology and is used by so many industries, this is an ongoing process and most of the containers are moving around all while being filled accurately.

To understand the process of this technology, you must understand the different parts that come together and work together to make this filling process run so smoothly. Some parts of this machinery that utilize encoder feedback are augers, rotary fluid dispensers and peristaltic pumps. Most of the time there are other sensors that can locate and detect the container and the containers location which include vision, proximity or lasers for the most accuracy. Something you may not know about rotary encoder products is that they may also be sometimes used to help control the motion of the fill nozzle or dispenser that is lowered up and down that fills the container with whatever it needs to be filled with. Another motion that some manufacturers have running that also require encoder feedback is the filling mechanisms that travel along with the containers as they are transported to the next stage of packing.

You should choose an encoder based on what the system you want needs and what you want that system to do specifically. There are different types of encoders some of which include mechanical, shaft, thru-bore, and measuring wheel encoders can be used depending on what fits the design your system runs on and what can instantly be fit into that system. Any electrical variables like resolution, output type, channels, voltage, and so on should all be specifically chosen to meet any individual application requirements the system may need. Most manufacturers have always used incremental encoders with quadrature outputs but in recent years absolute encoders have been gaining popularity as well in the industries that use them. Another thing you need to watch closely is when any powders or solids are being handled as there is potential for static discharge, making sure that the encoder is properly grounded and isolated.

The most popular industries that are used in everyday life that use this kind of encoder products today are the food industry, the beverage industry, personal care and hygiene industry, and the household cleaning industry. Like any piece of technology, there are certain things you should be aware of and some guidelines and safety rules you should follow. Always be aware of the environment surrounding your encoder, anything like liquids, fine particles, or any extreme temperatures around your equipment will need to follow safety guidelines. Most encoders and machinery in these industries will be required to have regular wash downs and there are seals you can purchase to protect your encoder products against moisture ingress. The safest option, however, is to purchase a stainless steel or polymer housing for your equipment that will protect your equipment from chemicals used for cleaning and will you from the machinery.

The industries that use encoder products are an essential part of our day to day routines, and the technology used in this day and age really has come a long way. If you are a manufacturer looking to purchase new encoder products there are many industrial areas that will sell all the parts you need, you can also browse, compare, and purchase most industrial parts online these days making it easier to determine what encoder products are right for your and your business.
