Stainless steel is a type of metal that is used in the production of different products in various applications in almost all industries. Stainless steel ranges through over than 50 alloys (it can contain elements such as iron, nitrogen, carbon, nickel, chromium, silicon, etc) which is probably the main reason for the wide usage of this metal. This versatile metal can be found in architecture and construction industry, medical equipment, pharmaceutical industry, automotive and transportation industry, heating, and energy production, petroleum refining and many more.

Stainless Steel Metal Fabrication 1

The main qualities of stainless steel, that set it apart among the other materials used on the manufacturing plants include high-quality construction; ultimate corrosion and abrasion resistance; durability; and ease of cleaning and maintenance. Stainless steel metal fabrication is the processing method with which this metal is fabricated. The purpose of the stainless steel fabrication is cutting, shaping and modeling this material and with that manufacturing the desired products in previously determined size and shape. A complete stainless steel metal fabrication service, or, in other words, the manufacturing of stainless steel parts or products by processing metal sheets is performed through three stages:

  • Design – Analyzing and determining the exact characteristics of the product to be created;
  • Construction – Processing the metal and constructing the parts of the product, by following the previously determined parameters;
  • Finishing and Assembling – After the parts are constructed, they are tested for quality and finished by specific post-fabrication procedures. In the end, all the parts are assembled into one product.

Stainless Steel Metal Fabrication Techniques

There are several different metal fabrication processes. Choosing the suitable fabrication technique depends on more factors, among which the most important are: the specific type of stainless steel; the purpose of use of the product; the size and shape characteristics of the product to be crafted. Some of the most commonly performed techniques in the manufacturing plants in various industries are:

  • Welding – This technique is performed for joining two or more different stainless steel parts into one product;
  • Milling – A method performed with the use of special milling machine. The purpose of this stainless steel metal fabrication technique is to create non-circular holes into the metal sheet or half-done or finished product;
  • Drilling – Unlike milling, drilling is used for boring circular holes into the raw material or the product being processed;
  • Turning – A technique for cutting the metal sheet or product while being rotated on its axis.
